How To Design A Business Card

A business card always the first impression you make on someone. It’s your chance to show off what makes you unique and why people should hire you for their projects. This tutorial will design a business card that can be used as inspiration when designing other cards or even websites!

Step 1: Sketching out ideas.

We start by sketching our idea onto paper using a pencil. We want something simple but still eye-catching, so it stands out from all of those boring old business cards in your wallet. You can use a grid system because it helps you keep your lines straight and organized while also making sure everything fits together nicely. You could draw freehand if you prefer. The important thing here is getting started with some plans before moving into Illustrator.

Step 2: Creating shapes

Once we have sketched out our basic shape, we need to create more detailed elements such as text boxes and buttons. Now we are going to add shadows to these objects, which gives them depth and dimensionality. Select one thing at a time and press Shift + Ctrl+D to duplicate it. Then click inside the copied object and drag it down until you reach 0px. This creates a shadow underneath the original thing. Repeat this process for each element you wish to include shadows.

Step 3: Adding color

Now it’s time to get creative with colors. You can choose bright orange and blue for my background since they go well together. Next, change the blending mode to Color Dodge. This allows us to see through the darker parts of the image and focus only on the lighter areas. Change Blend Mode to Color Dodge and set Opacity to 50%.

Step 4: Making adjustments

Now let’s take care of any minor details like adding drop shadows around the edges of the button. To do this, select both layers and then hold Alt/Option and move the mouse up towards the top left corner of the canvas. A small box appears on your screen where you can type numbers to adjust the size of the shadow. Type -1px and hit enter. Do the same for the right side of the canvas.

Step 5: Final touches

The last step is to give the whole piece a final touch. You add a gradient overlay over the entire page. Set the blend mode to Soft Light and Opacity to 70%.

Bottom line

When designing a business card, think about how you would feel holding it in your hand. Would you want to pick it up? If not, maybe try another style altogether. Also, it is also good to consider whether there is anything else you might want to put on the backside of the card. Remember, no matter how good your work looks, nothing beats real-life experience. So don’t forget to practice printing your designs out on actual business cards. That way, you’ll know exactly how yours look when printed.
